Durational Performance (2 hr.) by Panicattack Duo and Friends for THE SPONGE, The Change Room, London, UK, 2019, Photography by curator Oana Damir
SPLISH, SPLASH, our first solo show was a summertime bashhhh. THE SPONGE, a Pool Party at The Change Room was wet, sweaty, absorbing and fluid…. It hosted a wave of performances flowing between different artists and friends.
Both a changing room and a bathroom are spaces that refer to various binaries. They are spaces with a history deeply embedded in racism and class-ism, as well as they desire certain ‘attributes’ of an extrovert neurotypical personality, an abled body and gender conforming person. We wanted to take this loaded public space and try to create an intimate environment where everyone can be their most inner self.
THE SPONGE was an immersive encounter where you could either observe, join or dance yourself out. An encounter between bodies, characters, mediums and voices. A space where we could interrelate, respond, create and co-exist.
